M1 has bragging rights to being Singapore’s first digital network operator. Nowadays, it keeps more than 2 million customers connected via fibre and mobile services. M1 offers a mix of SIM-only, postpaid (with a device) and prepaid plans, on its 4G and 5G mobile networks.

Whether you choose a SIM-only, postpaid plan with a device, or a prepaid plan, the more you pay, the more data, call minutes and messages you’ll get. M1 plans are mostly a mix of 28-day, 30-day or monthly durations. M1 lets customers connect to its network via a physical SIM card or eSIM with eligible devices.

Before we get into it, here's a quick look at M1's mobile plans.

M1 SIM-only plans

If you have a smartphone you’re happy with, M1 has two SIM-only plans to choose from, both of which are 30-day offerings that include M1 5G network access and include unlimited weekend data.

The cheapest M1 SIM-only plan costs $14.95 per 30 days for 150GB of data and only $11.95 for the first three months. It also comes with 1,100 local call minutes and 1,100 local messages. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a cheaper SIM-only plan with the same call minutes and messages in our database. That said, there is significantly more base data included with plans from MyRepublic, Giga and Singtel. Here’s a list of popular plans with similar inclusions from our database.

M1’s only other SIM-only plan is almost identical to its cheapest one, except the extra cost per 30 days includes double the data: 300GB instead of 150GB. Effectively, this pricier M1 SIM-only plan is competing with the same alternatives listed above, albeit MyRepublic has significantly more base data on the same M1 5G network.

M1 vs. M1 Maxx

Similar to how Singtel has a budget brand, Gomo, M1 has a cheaper sub-brand called Maxx. Unlike M1, Maxx only offers SIM-only plans instead of postpaid and prepaid alternatives. As you might expect, Maxx plan prices are even cheaper than M1’s already low prices. All Maxx SIM-only plans are 30-day offerings, which include more base data, no excess charges and international roaming data, albeit with generally fewer included calls and texts.

M1 prepaid plans

M1 offers a few prepaid plans for people happy to stick with their existing mobile phone, most of which operate on 28-day recharge cycles, and those all come with unlimited incoming calls. The cheapest of those is the M1 Prepaid SIM $14, which has 150GB of data, 500 local call minutes and 50 local messages. It also comes with 100 international direct dial (IDD) minutes and 3GB of roaming data eligible for use in Bangladesh, China, India and Thailand. For comparison, Simba and Eight have cheaper prepaid plans with more data.

The M1 Prepaid SIM $25 also comes with the same data roaming inclusion and 200 IDD minutes. In terms of base inclusions, you get 168GB of data, 5,000 local call minutes and 400 SMSes. Comparatively, this M1 prepaid plan has a decent amount of data and call minutes, but Simba and Eight have cheaper plans with more data (albeit fewer call minutes).

The M1 Prepaid SIM $27 comes with the same number of call minutes and messages as the $25 plan, except it has 250GB of data. There’s also a mix of IDD call minutes, depending on the destination: 80 for the Philippines, 200 for Indonesia, 400 for Bangladesh, 500 for Malaysia, and 1,000 apiece for China and India. Simba and Eight, again, stand out as cheaper alternatives if you just want plenty of data.

M1’s two other prepaid plans fall under the “Know No Limits” banner. The cheapest costs $8 for a $10 main balance over 90 days, plus 1.5GB of data for 30 days. StarHub has a cheaper prepaid plan, but it has less data and expires after three days. Eight offers an identically priced plan, albeit with significantly more data (plus call minutes and SMSes).

The M1 $49 prepaid plan comes with 252GB of data, which is valid for 12 weeks, albeit with a four-week expiry on 5,000 local outgoing call minutes and 400 local SMSes. You won’t find prepaid competitors with the same expiry from the telcos we track in our database, though Singtel does offer two cheaper 30-day alternatives with unlimited data and unlimited call minutes.
