M1 is one of six licensed broadband service providers in Singapore, alongside Singtel, StarHub, MyRepublic, ViewQwest and WhizComms. There are four M1 fibre broadband plans to choose from, including 500Mbps, 1Gbps and 2Gbps speeds. M1 offers no-frills plans where users can bring their own router. Alternatively, routers can be bought as M1 fibre broadband plan add-ons.

M1 fibre broadband plans are sold with either 12-month or 24-month contracts. All 12-month M1 fibre broadband plans include a home fixed-line voice service and optical network terminal (ONT) activation. The 24-month plans come with the voice service and ONT activation, plus 4G mobile broadband.

Starting with the 12-month options, the M1 500Mbps Fibre Broadband 12M plan has a $58.85 upfront fee and usually costs $39.90 per month. This M1 fibre broadband plan comes with unlimited data and up to 500Mbps symmetrical download and upload speeds. M1 also sells a 12-month 1Gbps Fibre Broadband plan. It has a $58.85 upfront fee and typically costs $49.90 per month for unlimited data and up to 1Gbps symmetrical download and upload speeds.

M1 also sells four 24-month fibre broadband plans. The cheapest is the M1 500Mbps Fibre Broadband 24M plan. Which M1 fibre broadband speed is best?

Broadband plans in Singapore are among the fastest in the world, though ViewQwest, MyRepublic, Singtel and StarHub typically record faster average speeds (according to Ookla Speedtest Awards). Providers offer symmetrical download and upload speeds. This means a 1Gbps plan can reach download and upload speeds of up to 1Gbps. All broadband internet connections in Singapore are suitable for emails, web browsing, social media and online gaming.

Most homes should have more than enough download and upload speed from a 500Mbps fibre broadband plan. Compared to 1Gbps and faster plans, there’s money to be saved with 500Mbps plans. Consider 200Mbps or 300Mbps plans for further savings (where offered).
